Ultra-ThinNeedle Roller Thrust Bearing

We are pleased to inform that JTEKT has completed the development of the Ultra-Thin Needle Roller Thrust Bearing that contributes to improving the efficiency of automatic transmissions. JTEKT will promote　this bearing to automobile and transmission manufacturers as a product that will reduce the fuel consumption and increase the energy performance of automobiles. Transmissions incorporate multiple types of bearings. Therefore, through the development of energy-efficient bearings for transmissions, we will continue contributing to both lower fuel consumption of automobiles and the sustainability of our environment.

1.Product Overview

This product is one of the world’s smallest needle roller thrust bearing, employing extra small rollers with an outside diameter of 1 mm and a length of 2.5 mm. Fitted with two races, this bearing　shows great performances even in a thickness of 2 mm.

2.Product Details

Incorporating this bearing in the sliding portion between the planetary gear and carrier transforms the part from sliding to rolling. This will contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of the whole planetary gear unit, reducing friction by 80 % or more by bearing, compared to copper washers. This bearing shows remarkable performances especially when there are bigger skew forces that arise depending on the accuracy of the planetary gear and the rigidity of the planetary carrier.
