Development completion of staking-type long-life shaft for planetary gear
-Two times or longer life compared with conventional products-

JTEKT Corporation (hereinafter JTEKT) has developed a “staking-type long-life shaft” which is used for the planetary gear of automotive automatic transmissions (step type AT, CVT, HV).
This developed product applies special heat treatment that achieves staking on both sides of the shaft to be fixed to the planetary carrier. In addition, as for the durability, the life is improved two times or longer compared with conventional products. JTEKT developed shaft contributes to the size-reduction of planetary gear units weight-saving and higher-efficiency for automatic transmissions.

The special heat treatment newly developed by JTEKT enables both high-hardness of roller rolling surface and maintaining low-hardness of the part fixed to the planetary carrier (figures shown below). We succeeded in improving the shaft life two times or longer than conventional products by increasing the durability at roller rolling surface and reducing the amount of shaft deformation, while enabling “fixing by staking” which contributes to the size-reduction of planetary gear units.
