JTEKT hosts ground-breaking ceremony for its new plant in Morocco

JTEKT Automotive Morocco Steering to a new continent

JTEKT Corporation hosted a ground-breaking ceremony on September 17, 2018 to celebrate the construction of its new steering system production facility in Tangier, Morocco. The event was presided by Mr. Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of industry, investment, trade and numeric economy and co-hosted by Tanger Med, represented by its President, Mr. Fouad Brini.

Production at JTEKT Automotive Morocco is set to begin in 2020 with a target annual capacity of 230,000 electric power steering systems for local plants of international carmakers. The 11,300-square-meter plant in the heart of Tangier Automotive City will also accommodate production lines for Fuji Autotech Morocco, a JTEKT subsidiary which produces manual columns. This integration will strengthen JTEKT's ability to offer brand new steering systems and thereby solidify its No.1 position in the global market.

“This new manufacturing plant in North Africa will allow us to offer our customers the local supply chain they need while giving JTEKT an access to the African & Middle East markets, which enjoy major business growth” said Tetsuo Agata, President of JTEKT Corporation. “Thanks to its dynamic policy towards the automobile industry, the Kingdom of Morocco has enabled the development of a very attractive eco-system for foreign investors and Tanger Med, as its local relay, has created all the favourable conditions for our successful industrial establishment."
