Completion of development of
low idling rotational torque miniature one-way clutch

 Today, we are pleased to announce that JTEKT has completed the development of a miniature one-way clutch used in the backstopping mechanism, successfully reducing its idling rotational torque to 1/5 compared with the conventional product.
 JTEKT will polish product engineering to respond to customers’ needs and will promote better product development to provide pleasure for customers.

1.Product Feature

 

① Achieved the torque reduction of a miniature one-way clutch by optimizing springs (reduced to 1/5 compared with the conventional Koyo miniature one-way clutch).

② Secured high durability by using stainless steel for springs.

③ Achieved weight reduction by decreasing outer ring thickness through the adoption of press working for outer rings and by adopting resin cages.


2.Product Details

 

A miniature one-way clutch is a kind of bearing used in the backstopping mechanisms of devices and equipment in various industrial fields.
 The backstopping mechanism needs to interrupt power during idle mode rotation and to transmit power during locking mode rotation with as little energy loss as possible.
 As friction (idling rotational torque) in freewheeling affects power transmission significantly, reduction of idling rotational torque is needed.
 To respond to this need, JTEKT has developed a miniature one-way clutch in which idling rotational torque during locking mode rotation is reduced thoroughly maintaining a secure locking function by optimizing the spring shape such as plate thickness, width and length (reduced to 1/5 compared with the conventional one, see Fig. 2).
 Also high durability has been secured by using stainless steel for springs.
 In addition, weight reduction has been achieved by decreasing outer ring thickness through the adoption of press working for outer rings and by using not steel but resin for cages.
