Abstract This research and development project has enabled the automatic design of a process that fully optimizes machining time by shifting the process design from the engineer to a software system. Also, by considering the machine's characteristics and by integrating original high-speed machining know-how, this system is specialized for high-speed machining. Due to these innovations an operator without much experience is now able to perform high-speed die mold milling at the level of an extremely skilled operator. By using this system in the manufacturing of golf-iron molds the total time from the process design to actual machining can be reduced by 51%.
