Abstract This paper describes grinding simulation technology to establish the generating mechanism of chatter and grinding burn. This technology consists of two modules based on grinding processes. The chatter prediction module can accurately predict chatter by analyzing the grinding force from the interference area of the wheel and workpiece. The grinding burn prediction module can predict grinding burn by calculating the distribution factor of grinding heat in detail. The validity of both modules is verifi ed by comparing the predicted results to the experimental ones.
