Abstract To motorize the steering system of a full-size vehicle equipped with a 12 V power supply, JTEKT is developing an auxiliary power supply system for electric power steering (EPS) using a lithium-ion capacitor. In addition, as a result of working on expanding the temperature range of the lithium-ion capacitor in order to mount the system in a full-size vehicle free of a cooling-heating system, the world's fi rst operating temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees C was achieved. The developed capacitor operates stably even in high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees C by restricting the upper limit of operating voltage.
