Abstract | A new type of oil seal has been developed by improving the composition of the fluororubber and optimizing the design of the main lip shape in order to support the high peripheral speeds (up to 50 m/s) of EV drive motors. Seal performance, including durability, has been evaluated under both poor and good lubrication conditions. It was found that deterioration of the lubrication condition of the sliding part and occurrence of stick-slip were problems with current products. These problems were solved by developing low-friction fluororubber, adding ribs that could guide lubricating oil to the main lip sliding part, and devising a screw mechanism to collect a small amount of oil that leaked. |
