| Abstract | To shorten lead times for die fabrication, electrical discharge machining is being replaced with cutting. However, it is difficult to achieve the necessary accuracy when using cutting tools with long extrusion lengths due to chatter and machining remains. To ensure accuracy, cutting and measurement are repeated until satisfactory cutting conditions are achieved. To address this problem, we have developed a technique that analyzes profile error and surface roughness before machining by simulating dynamic vibration of the tool. This technique revealed that there is a condition where both chatter and profile error are suppressed, allowing for high speed machining of deep die molds with the necessary accuracy, without the need to repeat the same process in production. |
